ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS (meet one of the following criteria)
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a Fire Protection-related discipline plus 2 years of work experience dedicated to curtailing fire loss.
- Associate’s degree in a Fire Protection-related discipline plus 4 years of work experience dedicated to curtailing fire loss.
- High school diploma, or equivalent, plus 6 years of work experience dedicated to curtailing fire loss.
Certification Process:

- Get yourself enrolled for training and exam preparation by paying $399
- Complete online CFPS online application
- Pay the $399.00 initial exam fee
- Submit the required documents
- NFPA will email an authorization letter with exam scheduling instructions
ABOUT THE EXAM
- Proctored computer-based exam, at an in-person testing center or via online remote proctoring
- Open book
- Exam duration 3-hours
- 100 multiple choice questions
- You have 12 months, from the application approval date, to pass the exam.

- System Approaches to Property Classes 5%
- Organizing for Fire and Rescue Services 5%
- Detection and Alarm 10%
- Water-Based Fire Suppression 20%
- Fire Suppression without Water 5%
- Confining Fires 5%
Training Duration:
- 12 days of training
- Online evening session
- 07pm to 11pm
- 4 hours per day
- Weekend session, only on Friday and Saturday
